Pipe Installation From Launch Pits
Pipe Jacking
Pipe Jacking pushes pipe sections through the ground from a launch pit or shaft, creating a new underground route with excavation controlled at the face.

What Is Pipe Jacking?
Pipe Jacking is a trenchless installation method for forming an underground pipe or casing route. Hydraulic jacks push pipe sections forward from the launch area while the ground is excavated or cut ahead of the pipe.
It is often selected where the route needs a robust installed pipe and where open trenching along the full alignment would be disruptive or impractical.
How It Works
A launch pit or shaft is prepared, jacking equipment is installed and the pipe sections are aligned to the route. The pipe is then pushed forward section by section.
The process depends on reaction support, pipe handling space, alignment checks and spoil removal. The receiving area also needs to be considered before the method is confirmed.
When It Is Used
Pipe Jacking is used for crossings, utility routes, drainage lines and situations where a pipe needs to be installed below existing surfaces or infrastructure.
It can suit larger pipe routes where a more substantial installation method is needed from defined access points.
Typical Applications
- Drainage and sewer installation
- Utility pipe routes
- Road, rail or infrastructure crossings
- Steel or concrete pipe/casing routes
Site Considerations
- Launch and reception pit design
- Pipe diameter and jacking length
- Ground conditions and groundwater
- Line and level requirements
- Spoil removal and access
Benefits
- Installs pipe sections below ground
- Limits surface excavation to working areas
- Can suit robust pipe or casing routes
- Useful where alignment and access need careful control

What Information Should You Provide?
Useful enquiry information includes the project location, route length, pipe or duct size, depth, ground details if known, access points, drawings and site photos where available.
The more practical information you can share, the easier it is to identify whether Pipe Jacking or another no-dig method may be suitable.
