Butt Fusion Welding

HDPE Pipe Jointing

Butt Fusion Welding

Butt Fusion Welding joins HDPE pipe sections into strong continuous pipework ready for underground utility or drainage installation.

Butt Fusion Welding Advice

Suitability depends on the route, access, existing services, ground information and the details supplied at enquiry stage.

What Is Butt Fusion Welding?

Butt Fusion Welding is a pipe jointing method for HDPE. It joins two pipe ends by preparing, heating and pressing them together under controlled conditions.

The result is a welded joint that becomes part of the pipe run rather than a separate mechanical coupling.

How It Works

The pipe ends are clamped in the fusion machine, faced square, heated, brought together under pressure and allowed to cool.

Good preparation matters. Pipe alignment, clean faces and correct handling all affect the quality of the joint.

When It Is Used

Butt Fusion Welding is used before or during underground pipe installation where longer continuous HDPE pipe strings are needed.

It supports HDD, pipe bursting, utility routes, drainage works and other projects where HDPE pipework is specified.

Typical Applications

  • HDPE pipe jointing
  • Pipe bursting replacement pipework
  • HDD pipe strings
  • Water, drainage and utility routes

Site Considerations

  • Pipe diameter and SDR
  • Working space for pipe strings
  • Weather and cleanliness
  • Joint cooling and handling
  • Installation sequence

Benefits

  • Strong continuous HDPE pipe runs
  • Reliable welded joint when correctly prepared
  • Useful before trenchless installation
  • Reduces reliance on mechanical couplings
